Playing golf with the Bushnell Yardage Pro XGC is a complete delight. For newcomers, halt to the golf course and turn the unit on and there is not a lot else to do.
It knows where you are and surfaces with the right course each time. When on the golf course you have the accepted screen showing you distances to the green. One click over and you get right yardages to any points of concern on that hole. One click over again and you deal with the over head map of the hole in which you can move the cursor to any point on the course and get the distance. You require a distance to a tree in the middle of the water? Simply 2 clicks and move the cursor.
Bushnell Yardage Pro XGC holds 100 courses at a time and the courses are stored on your pc, so they are yours always. There is a $34.99 annual fee to be able to keep downloading courses.
Its small, clips to your belt easily and is waterproof. The precision is highly good. And the rechargeable battery lasts at least 4 rounds.
Bushnell Yardage Pro XGC is very easy to use, with a limited amount of buttons. At each hole, it gives you the distance to the front, center and back. But if you click the map button, it shows an overview of the hole, kind of like we have been waiting for on Sky Caddies. As you get closer to the hole, the map just shows just the part of the hole between you and the green area. You can move the cross hairs to any location on the hole to measure to lay up spots and such. It does show most of the hazards you will encounter in playing the hole, and has the ability to add 6 additional points of your own. Its highly easy to map them, too.

With a click of the center button in the middle of the joy pad, it marks your ball location. When you get to your ball, you hit it again, and it measures the distance hit. It has a score keeping feature, which seems functional. It also downloads the newest golf news, equipment reviews and other stuff.
The scoreboard defaults to whatever the par may be on that hole. The unit will keep overall score and also putts per round. Just slightly perk that we surely liked throughout our testing. We were able to use the device on 3 different courses for a total of 7 rounds and not once did the unit hiccup at all with any feature. While playing the first day with it, we got backed up on a par 3 and had about a 15 minute wait.
This is a GPS unit that works on a “membership” basis and for $35 you get 100 credits. Most 18 hole courses we looked up cost only 1 credit. Anyhow one little issue we had was that if a course had 27 holes for some reason the price wanted to default to 3 credits. We think this is more of a tech issue than whatever else. With these kind of features, the $35 seems to be a much better bargain than what I am currently paying Skycaddie. The sync program that goes with the device works flawlessly and is about as easy to use as everything else we described. Simply type in the name of the course and it comes up. Download it and then sync it to the device.
