SkyCaddie SGX Golf GPS
An amazing new rangefinder is released by Sky golf and if you’re willing to get your hands on the latest SkyCaddie SGX Golf GPS then your only place for now to have it is from online.

The SkyCaddie SGX Golf GPS is the next generation of golf rangefinders, with advanced characteristics, accuracy, and reliability second-to-none. Released March 15, 2010, it is one of the most awaited golfing-specific GPS units up to now. As per its creator, Skygolf, the SkyCaddie SGX Golf GPS is “a platform that can extend the game beyond the 18th green”. This really is upwards of believable, thinking about all the additional features this unit can give when compared to its competition. The unit is available standard with a large 3″ easy-to-read transflective LCD screen that provides outstanding color images even in the brightest sunlight. Its long lasting rechargeable lithium-ion battery gives 14 hours of constant use. This can be surely more than enough for even the longest of golf outings. SkyCaddie SGX is a stylish technology with advanced innovation, which adds brainpower and wireless connectivity to all golf clubs and is also identified as the gateway to golf’s future which will certainly improve your game.
The SkyCaddie SGX sports an innovative, dual navigation method to supply simple one-handed functioning and accurate positioning without obstructing critical details with fat fingers and smudges. Nothing’s more painful than attempting to add technology to your golf game that makes life more difficult on you. Golfing technology should work to enhance your game, not worsen it. One of the most sophisticated characteristics of this golf GPS system is the computer chip upgrades. This enables you to insert a computer chip into the butt end of your golf clubs grip so that the system instantly can identify which club is being removed from the bag. The SkyCaddie SGX then consults the GPS tracking system to figure out how well you hit with each individual golf club. It even offers you an alert when you’ve left a club behind! Often GPS golf units like these, in their search for ultra-portability, sacrifice user friendliness due to their decreased sized. It often seems as though mobile units, especially GPS units, are designed for munchkins with tiny fingers. This is not an issue with the SkyCaddie, however, as it can be used in combination with large (and even gloved) fingers. So forget having to interrupt your game due to input mistakes, constantly wiping off smudge marks, or swapping your gloves off and on.

Mine is great!

I haven't had the problems of some of the reviewers below. I got mine 10 days ago from another supplier who had a 12% off Memorial Day sale.
2 of the 3 courses that I play have the overhead HoleVue. Many more courses will have HoleVue by the end of the year. Lots of the recent problems have been with courses that do not have HoleVue. An update went out today that seems to have fixed that.
I'm very pleased with mine, but some have had repeated problems. The company does seem to replace units that have problems. |
no major problems

| mine had a few sync problems at first, only had to disconnect/reconnect a few times. after it has been completed updated to the newest version it conncects right up everytime and pulls my scorecard from that day, or since the last time i had it connected. i have a new computer with win 7 64 bit. the only problem i have right now is the quickview isnt supported yet. there is supposed to be a patch coming for that on the 10th of june. i find the interface to be very user friendly as well, and the screen very easy to see in the sunlight. the scorecard function is great to be able to track your stats online. sorry for not being a long review, but i had to offset all the people who have been having problems. if you read the skycaddie forums. it looks like they got most of the problems worked out on the sgx. |

| Purchased this item in July 2010 after I had heard all the plus/negative about the new unit. My son had an older unit that we enjoyed together. I had no problem downloading or registering my product but then I am only running Windows XP. I use it not only on the course for yardage measurements but also to keep score and track my shots (number of putts per round, driving distance etc.) and then upload them to my account so I can see where I need work on my game. Just like anything else it is only as good as you want it to be or the time that you are willing to take using the features it has. Also really like the way the "track button" works to move the cursor on the screen. Would I recommend it - yes. |
Great GPS Unit

| I have been using the SG2 for a few years and found it very useful but didn't enjoy paying the yearly subscriptions. I recently purchased the SGX even though I read a lot of reviews where people were having difficulties with the unit. I use XP and my unit works great. If you use the unit straight out of the box without updating the unit you may have some issues. The SGX does exactly what I want from a GPS unit, it gives me yardages to specific targets, be as accurate as a gps unit can be, and keep stats for me during the round(including round duration is a +). The size and width of the gps is roughly the same as my droid phone. I enjoy using a seperate GPS unit instead of my phone for battery life, distractions, etc. I love the unit but understand if people are skeptical to pay the $400 price on it. I received a great price for the unit and have used it for 3 rounds so far. I would definitely say if your a casual player, you should probably use a gps app from your phone. The SGX definitely shaves off between 4-5 strokes a round for me and is a lot easier to navigate than my previous SG2. |

Read the instructions and had no problems at all with activating, syncing, downloading courses etc. Any updates to the SGX software automaticly get uploaded when you plug it into the computer. Very happy with my purchase. Would recommend this item to anyone who wants to improve thier game. |
sync a problem but worth it

| I recently purchased the SGX and like most people had a problem trying to register the product. When I tried to sync on my computer with Windows 7 and 64 bit, I never did get it to sync, so I took it to office and was able to work on my XP machine. The have a temporary fix for Windows 7, but real fix will come shortly. As far as use and ease of use, this is the best GPS I have had and I have had a previous sky caddie and most recently a upro. What I like best is the clearity of the screen and how fast it reads the yardage. As with any product brand new on the market, there are normally a few bugs, but this product is worth the hassle. I would have given it 5 stars if it did not have the sync problems. |
Great unit, steep learning curve

I waited for about a week from release to order the SGX skycaddie from Amazon. The negative review on synching with windows worried me. After reading the user comment I went ahead and ordered the unit figuring that, if it didn't work I could always return it to Amazon.
I had no problems synching it, and it downloaded the courses I selected without any problems. It is very important to note that Quick Vue does not work with SGX, only Hole Vue does. I didn't realize this and wondered why he courses I play did not show the hole view. It turns out only two of them were listed as having Hole Vue. If this is important you need to check on the skygolf website to make sure that your courses are mapped for Hole Vue. I believe this will get resolved soon as they get their mapping up to date.
On the course, I found the ranges accurate which are what this rangefinder is really about and is the reason I did not get any of the satellite mapped rangefinders.
The controls consist of three small keys, which might be a little too small for people with big fingers and also have a tad of a learning curve to get to use them properly. There is a button/joystick to navigate the cursor around. It does double duty as selection button when you press on it; this may cause problems for some but there is a workaround in the settings menu, where you can disable the select function from the joystick and just use the right key for that.
Two additional small buttons on either side of the joystick serve to take you out of golf menus and into your scorecard.
There are two larger buttons at the bottom corners:
The left one (with a ball logo) is used to mark your ball position to use the stroke distance measurement. You hit the button where you hit the ball from and when you get to the ball the display shows (in numbers that are too small and easy to miss) the distance to the spot you hit from. (Note that the manual is wrong and you should not hit the ball button again.)
The right one with a flag takes you to the green view.
You have a choice to have your unit keep your score for you. It will also track number of fairways hit and how you miss them, as well as number of putts per hole. It will keep 10 scorecards in memory and synch them to your account in SkyGolf, which is rather neat.
The biggest negative for me is the learning curve. It takes a while to learn all the features and how to use them.
All in all, I like the unit and recommend it. I may edit this after I have a chance to play with it some more.
